Frequently Asked Questions

Q
A
How long has iSimple been around?
iSimple was founded in 2006 as the portable media device integration accessories sub-brand of Peripheral Electronics, an industry leader in automotive technology solutions. Due to the strong consumer response to the iSimple GateWay and SoundByte, as well as the expansion of products coming out under the iSimple line, iSimple became a stand-alone brand in 2008.

Q
A
Where can I buy iSimple products?
iSimple products are available at specialty car audio and consumer electronics dealers nationwide as well as retailers such as Best Buy, FYE, and Fry’s Electronics. Additionally, you can purchase many of our products directly from us using our online shopping cart.

Q
A
What iSimple solution is right for my car?
Excellent question, and one we hear quite a bit. One of the most important parts of choosing a car connection kit for your iPod, smartphone, tablet computer or mp3 player is finding one that helps you get the best sound and most features in your particular make and model of vehicle. Please read the tech info provided on each product page to see if there are any special exceptions that apply to your vehicle or radio. Once you see what solutions work, take a look at the product descriptions and features to see which solution fits your particular needs. If you still have question, feel free to contact our customer assistance center at 866-788-4237.

Q
A
Can I install an iSimple car kit myself?
Yes. Most iSimple products are designed to be installed in about an hour by somebody with a basic knowledge of car audio. There are even videos on this site and on YouTube that show how to install certain product. However, we strongly recommend professional installation for two reasons: (a) you are guaranteed a proper installation, and (b) a professional installer can provide support in the event of an installation problem.

Q
A
Will having an iSimple solution installed void my vehicle manufacturer’s warranty?
Absolutely not. When installed and used properly, your manufacturer’s warranty will not be voided in any way. In fact, many of our solutions are recommended for leased vehicles for that very reason. However, we do strongly recommend professional installation for many of our products.

Q
A
How does the iSimple GateWay work?
When it was first introduced in late 2007, the iSimple GateWay was the first interface that utilized a car’s built-in satellite radio connection to provide music from an iPod or iPhone, as well as library browsing by Artist, Album, Genre, and Playlist from the radio controls. The iSimple GateWay offers crystal-clear music from any iPod or iPhone model, and houses technology allowing it to be upgraded with an iSimple HD Radio, SCC1 SIRIUS satellite radio receiver or an iSimple Bluetooth module.

Q

What is HD Radio?
It’s the most significant advancement in radio broadcasting since the introduction of FM stereo more than 50 years ago. HD Radio technology enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast their programs digitally – a tremendous technological leap that improves reception, sound quality and programming options. HD Radio gives you static-free AM and FM reception, as well as access to additional radio stations that a standard receiver can’t pick up, all without any subscription fees or contracts.

Q
A
How many HD Radio stations are there out there?
There are over 1,800 broadcasting stations, plus more than 900 NEW local FM HD2 and HD3 channels. To find HD Radio stations in your city and state, visit HDRadio.com.

Q
A
How does the iSimple SoundByte work?
The iSimple SoundByte uses your car’s CD changer port (sometimes located in the trunk or glove compartment) to connect an iPod or iPhone directly to its factory-installed stereo. This connection gives you excellent sound quality, as well as enabling you to select tracks using the FFWD / RRWD buttons just like a CD changer.

Q
A
Does the iSimple SoundByte show Song, Title and Artist info on the radio display?
Unfortunately, the iSimple SoundByte does not currently display Song, Title and Artist data. Because your car stereo “thinks” the iSimple SoundByte is an auxiliary CD player, you will see “TRACK” along with a track number on your display.

How do the iSimple TranzIt and TranzIt USB work?
The iSimple TranzIt and TranzIt USB work very similarly to the signal splitter that you would use when hooking up an older video game system (anybody remember the Atari or the original Nintendo?) to your TV. On those older systems you tuned your TV to a certain empty channel to play your game. Well, that’s what you do with the iSimple TranzIt or TranzIt USB. Simply designate an unused FM frequency as a playback channel, tune in and turn it on.

Q
A
Can I control my portable device through my stereo or entertainment system with an iSimple TranzIt or TranzIt USB?
No. Even though the iSimple TranzIt and TranzIt USB are installed systems that provide battery charging, they do not give you track or song control like many of the other advanced solutions do. This is because the only thing the iSimple TranzIt and TranzIt USB send to the radio emulating is an FM signal, not digital data. Because of this, you’ll have to use your device’s original controls to find and select music.

How does the iSimple WiFli Work?
The iSimple WiFli transmits a digital RDS FM radio signal to the car stereo, resulting in sound quality superior to that of most FM modulators as well as track and song information displayed on car radios equipped with RDS technology. You can use the WiFli remote to play/pause your iPod or iPhone, as well as control tracks and select playlists.

What is the WiFli App and how do I get it?
If you have an iPod touch or iPhone, you'll want to download the free WiFli App from the iTunes Store. The WiFli App works in conjunction with the dTECT technology built into the WiFli Node and allows you to use the touchscreen display on your iPod touch or iPhone to find the very best radio frequency to play your music.
The WiFli App is a FREE download from the iTunes App Store.

Here's How to Get the WiFli App:
» Connect the WiFli Node to the docking port on your iPod touch or iPhone, a message should appear indicating that the WiFli App is not yet installed.
» You will then see a message prompting you to install the WiFli App; click "YES" The device will take you to the WiFli App page at the iTunes App Store Download and install the WiFli App for FREE.
» An internet connection is required for access to the iTunes App Store. Check with your wireless carrier regarding any data usage fees.

Here's What It Does:
» Activates dTECT™ Technology– When activated, the dTECT smart scanning technology will search the FM band and find the clearest local frequency for playback of your iPhone / iPod touch.

Manual Tuning– Use the Touch Screen interface to tune to the desired frequency for playback [i] button: Enters the Info/Settings menu.

What are PürSound™ and dTECT™ Technologies?
The WiFli is the first iSimple product to feature PūrSound™ – a dynamic digital audio technology that allows listeners to enjoy crisper treble, smoother mid-tones and deeper bass than with any other FM transmitter. PūrSound also boosts and regulates signal strength to dramatically reduce the amount of background noise or static usually associated with FM modulation.

Finally, the WiFli utilizes a smart FM frequency auto scanning system developed by iSimple called dTECT™.  When activated, dTECT technology automatically locates and locks-in on the FM frequency best suited for iPod or iPhone playback. All the user needs to do is tune his/her stereo to the matching frequency and press play.

What is RDS?
Radio Data System (RDS) is a broadcast format originally developed to transmit real-time road conditions information on the Autobahn. To do this, an RDS transmitter embeds small amounts of digital information into an FM radio signal. In the US and Canada, car radios with RDS technology are able to show channel call sign and “now playing” information on the display window. Typically, compatible radios have a small RDS logo on the faceplate, or the letters “RDS”, “RBDS”, “EON” or “RT” on the radio’s digital display.
